Historical information about the monument: One of the Lutheran churches in Azerbaijan is located in Ganja. After the occupation of the Ganja Khanate by Russia in 1804, the city of Ganja was called "Yelizavetpol" in honor of Empress Elizabeth Alekseyevna, the wife of Emperor Alexander I until 1918. After the annexation of Azerbaijan to Russia, German immigrants began to come to Elizavetpol province. They established several colonies in the region and settled in the center of the province. For example, in 1893, 103 German families lived in Elizavetpol.
In 1885, the German community also built a place of worship for meetings. Tuff stone was mainly used in the construction of the building, which was erected in an eclectic architectural style. The total area of the building, consisting of one hall, one foyer and 15 rooms, is 650 square meters. In 1915, the church building was handed over to the Orthodox Church.
During World War II, the German resettlement process began, and the church ceased operations in 1941. At present, the Ganja State Puppet Theater operates in the building, which is an architectural monument of national importance. The building was repaired in 2013. The main composition and style of the monument were not touched during the restoration work carried out inside the building.
