Historical information about the monument: Located in the center of Baku (Nasimi district, Vagzal Square), the building of the Railway Station is one of the most outstanding buildings. The area occupied by the station used to be a vineyard.

The station opened its doors to passengers on January 10, 1884. The Mauritanian-style building was designed by Professor Bruni. In 1926, the building was reconstructed. In June of the same year, an electric train was launched in the former USSR, for the first time in Azerbaijan, on the Baku-Sabunchu railway.

In 1977, a new station building was built at the Baku passenger station of the railway. The 16-storey building, designed to serve passengers as well as the hotel, is the largest of its kind in the South Caucasus.

The style and facade of the building are traditional for Baku. The exterior of the station is typical of the ancient Eastern style. At that time, the building, built in the Eastern style, was considered a manifestation of luxury and grandeur. Many elements of the Shirvanshahs' palace were also used on the facade of this building.

The station building, which is an architectural monument of national importance, has been reconstructed in accordance with national ornaments. As part of the overhaul and reconstruction, eight modern tunnels have been built, four for station and four for the city. The facade of the main building has been reconstructed in keeping with the architectural style, and major repairs have been carried out inside the building.
